Building the ANU Data Commons
The Australian National University has been funded by ANDS, the Australian National Data Service, to undertake work to collect and publish metadata about research data held by the ANU, and in the case of four discipline areas, Earth Sciences, Astronomy, Phenomics and Digital Humanities to develop pipelines and tools to enable the publication of research data using a common and repeatable approach.
This project forms part of the ANU’s developing e-research strategy and will align with other initiatives by the University in the field of e-research, for example its participation in Project Bamboo.
Aims and outcomes
- To identify and describe research data held at the ANU
- To develop a consistent approach to the publication of metadata on the ANU’s data holdings
- Identification and curation of significant orphan data sets that might otherwise be lost or inadvertently destroyed
- To develop a culture of data data sharing and data re-use.
- To build an ANU community of competence in e-research and data management
- By publishing the data, enhance the reputation of the ANU and its staff what has been achieved by the ANU’s research groups
If you would like to know more, or have data that you wish to publish, please contact the project manager, Doug Moncur
