UniID and password

Access to ANU online services is via your University ID (UniID) and a password. This combination gives you access to all University-wide information resources and services. Your UniID is in the format of u1234567, assigned when you first become a student or staff member and remains the same throughout your time at ANU. It is not a secret. If you’re both a staff member and a student you’ll have a single UniID. Your password, however, is secret and for security reasons it should not be disclosed to anyone.

As a member of the University community, it is your responsibility to be aware of and to adhere to the University’s Acceptable Use Policy. This will help to keep ANU information services secure.

Changing Your Password

The ANU Identity Manager is an online service where you can change your password. You can also set answers to various authentication questions so that if you forget your password you can reset it yourself by supplying the answers to these questions when you log into Identity Manager.

If you have forgotten your password and have not set answers to your authentication questions, you can have it reset by logging a job with the DOI Helpdesk

For tips on creating a secure password, see passwords & passphrases.

Student Access

If you are a student you can access ANU online resources using your UniID and password. Your UniID is given to you at enrolment, and is printed on your student card in the bottom right-hand corner.

You are also assigned a computer-generated password on enrolment. You should immediately change this password. All of your passwords should be easy for you to remember, but hard for other people to guess, and must be known only to you. Your password controls access to your enrolments, grades and quotas.

You log in and authenticate yourself by typing both your UniID and password. Your UniID and password combination gives you access to all University-wide information resources and services. To obtain help with your password, log a job at http://doihelpdesk.anu.edu.au

Staff Access

If you are a staff member you may have more than one username and password.

  • Your UniID and password gives you access to all University-wide information systems
  • You may have a different username and password for resources provided by your local area, such as desktop computers or local servers
  • Staff who use enterprise systems as part of their work may have an additional password for access to those systems.

All of your passwords should be easy for you to remember, but hard for other people to guess and must be known only to you. To obtain help with your password, contact your Local IT Support Staff (LITSS) or log a job with the DOI Helpdesk.
