Changes have been made to improve the University’s email Quarantine service.
The service protects ANU email accounts from receiving large amounts of spam,
while ensuring that legitimate emails are still received. The changes to the
service will enable ANU Quarantine to more effectively sort through the vast
amounts of spam sent to ANU email addresses each day.
The Quarantine service works by assigning points to suspicious
characteristics in all emails. When the Quarantine system filter detects that a
message has a 50% or greater likelihood of containing spam, the message is
prevented from reaching your inbox. When a message is detained by the Quarantine
service, it is sent to a special folder which can be accessed by logging into
the Quarantine system.
If you want to see what messages ANU Quarantine is detaining or if you are
concerned that you have not received an email which you should have received,
you can visit the Quarantine service online at http://quarantine.anu.edu.au.
Here you can sort through the detained messages, block and approve senders and
activate notification for when messages are blocked by the service.
