E-Bricks

The Library’s Digital Learning Materials Service offers lecturers the opportunity to make all the reading material for their courses available to their students in electronic form.

In other words, reading bricks can be made available as E-Bricks.

How should material be submitted for scanning?

Requirements are very similar to those for print bricks. Material for scanning should:

  • Be A4 size, clean, straight on the page and preferably not on recycled paper
  • Have text that is clear and legible
  • Have little or no black photocopy margin

Please give a copy of your brick to circulation staff in any Library building. Please make sure you include the course code and the course co-ordinator contact details. The brick should also include the table of contents listing the bibliographic details of each individual item (chapter, article).

How can students access E-Bricks?

There are several ways to access online material.

  • Via the Library catalogue
Search by course code or lecturer to see all the readings available
  • Via WebCT
A link to the list of readings is available in WebCT.
  • Via a course website
Lecturers are able to set up links to readings on course websites.

How do I link to items in an E-Brick?

If you use WebCT, a link to online materials via the Library is automatically included. If you would like to include links on a non-WebCT webpage or document, instructions are available here (pdf).

What are the copyright and licensing restrictions?

Information about copyright and licensing requirements is available here.

Where can I get more information?

Please email the Digital Learning Materials Service with any queries.
