Options

Options is the section where you can set your preferences for the appearance & operations of various aspects of ANUmail. There are Global options, as well as options for Mail, Calendar and Address Book.

6.1 Global

Default Email Client: this option should be left as Communications Express.

Language: there are seven languages to choose from. English is the default.

Date and Time Format: Set up the format of the date & time display to your preference.

Time Zone: choose your time zone. The default is the correct setting for NSW & ACT.

6.2 Mail

6.2a Personal Information

Here you can;

  • specify a reply-to address if you want a response to be sent to an e-mail address other than you ANU e-mail account,
  • create a signature to be attached to your sent messages,
  • create a “v card” (an electronic business card) to be attached to your sent messages.

6.2b Settings

Here you can choose

  • how you want message deletions to be handled
  • if you want to keep copies of sent messages, and where they are saved
  • where you want to save draft messages
  • if you want to include the original email in your replies.

6.2c Layout

In Layout, you can;

  • choose how many messages you wish to be displayed on the screen at once.
  • The default sort order of the messages.
  • Which columns you want displayed, and the order they are displayed in.

6.2d Vacation Message

Here you can set up an automated vacation message. You can;

  • set the start and end date for the message
  • have different messages sent to persons inside and outside the ANU
  • set the Number of days between replies: Enter the number of days after which another automatic reply should be sent to a repeat mail sender.During the number of days you specify, a sender receives one vacation reply from you, no matter how many messages are sent to you.

6.2e Mail Filters

Here you can set up filters to handle your incoming mail

The first screen shows a list of your current filters. You can edit or delete them, or add new ones.

To add a new filter, click New. This will take you to the following screen;

The two settings a new filter needs are:

  • identifying which messages are to be filtered.
  • deciding how ANU mail will handle that filtered message.

You can set up the filter to apply to;

  • ALL incoming messages, or,
  • to messages which meet certain conditions on certain fields. The fields are;
    • Sender. Specify the filter criteria for names that can send you emails and enter the sender’s name. The filter criteria options are contains, does not contain, is, is not, begins with, and ends with.
    • Subject. Specify the filter criteria for the subject contained in the email message. The filter criteria options are contains, does not contain, is, is not, begins with, and ends with.
    • To or cc. Specify the filter criteria for names you can send or copy emails to. The filter criteria options are contains, does not contain, is, is not, begins with, and ends with.
    • To. Specify the filter criteria for names that you can send emails to. The filter criteria options are contains, does not contain, is, is not, begins with, and ends with.
    • cc. Specify the filter criteria for names that you can copy emails to. The filter criteria options are contains, does not contain, is, is not, begins with, and ends with.
    • Message Size The filter criteria options are as less than or greater, and enter the message size.

You can add as many conditions as you like by clicking the Add button. You can also choose to set dates during which a filter will apply.

Once you have determined which messages are to be filtered, you must decide how ANUmail will handle them. The options are;

  • Move message to folder. Select this option to specify the name of the folder in which the message will be stored.
  • Forward to email address. Select this option to specify where to forward messages. By default, a copy of the forwarded message is stored in your inbox.
    • Don’t deliver the message to inbox. Select this option if you do not want to store a copy of the forwarded message in your inbox.
  • Discard the message (overrides other actions). Select this option if you want to discard the message. If you select this option, other options that you may have selected are deselected automatically.

6.4 Address Book

Here you can;

  • Rename your personal address book
  • Add a description to your personal address book
  • Choose the default view as either your personal address book, or the ANU directory
  • Choose the number of address book contacts to be displayed on the screen at once
  • Choose which columns you want displayed
