Information Services@ANU > Records of Academic Staff Records of Academic StaffThe papers of many of the prominent Australians involved in the early development of the Australian National University, as well as those of later contributors to research and teaching at ANU, are held in a number of repositories. These include the University Archives, the National Library of Australia, the National Archives of Australia, the Australian Academy of Science and the Barr Smith Library, University of Adelaide. University ArchivesThe University Archives holds collections of papers of ANU academic and administrative staff, including Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, Registrars, Deans, Professors, University Librarians, and Lecturers. These collections complement the information held on official files and usually document aspects of the individual's involvement in research, teaching and administration. Detailed information is available in the List of Holdings by Person. The University Archives also holds the personnel files of prominent staff members (usually Professor or equivalent level). National Library of AustraliaThe National Library holds personal collections of many ANU academic and administrative staff, including Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, and Professors. There are several cases where papers of a particular person are held by both the University Archives and the National Library, such as Sir John Crawford and Dr H C Coombs. The List of NLA Holdings is not exhaustive and does not indicate the extent of the individual collections held by the NLA. For further information, you need to consult the NLA Manuscripts Catalogue at http://www.nla.gov.au/ms/ Other archivesThe National Archives of Australia holds papers of Dr H C Coombs and Sir Douglas Copland, and the Barr Smith Library, University of Adelaide holds those of Sir Mark Oliphant. The Australian Academy of Science holds papers of several Fellows of the Academy who were also ANU staff. To locate collections of ANU-related papers held by other archives and libraries, start with a creator search on the National Library's Register of Australian Archives and Manuscripts at http://www.nla.gov.au/raam/. For individuals in the fields of science, technology and medicine, the best place to start is the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre's Bright Sparcs at http://www.asap.unimelb.edu.au/bsparcs/bsparcshome.htm |
