Photocopying Services

Photocopying will be done by Archives staff to protect the records from damage and to ensure that copies are properly identified. Please complete a Request for photocopies, digital images and photographs form including payment details on the reverse. You will be asked to indicate the approximate number of copies requested. Archives staff will adjust this to the actual number of copies supplied when the photocopying is completed. The charges per page include GST:

Black and white

 Colour

A4 or A3

$0.55 per page

 $2.75 per page

Microfilm printout

$0.55 per page

We are happy to post copies to researchers at standard Australia Post charges. Express Post service is available on request.

Payment may be made by cash, cheque, Visa, Mastercard or by requesting a tax invoice. ANU internal journal transfers can also be arranged.

Photocopying request slips

Each item to be copied must be accompanied by a photocopying request slip (available in the reading room). When completing the slip it is important to note:

Location Number

eg ANUA28 Box 1 (for University Archives) or N46/565 (for Noel Butlin Archives Centre)

Pages

Page numbers or other identifying features of the material to be copied (including how many pages)

Deposit Name

eg Board of Graduate Studies (for University Archives) or Waterside Workers Federation of Australia (for NBAC)

Requested By

 Name of person requesting photocopying

Once completed, the slip should be attached to the required pages with a plastic paperclip. The information on the slips will help you cite and identify the documents you have copied so should be completed carefully.

Limits on photocopying

The Archives cannot guarantee immediate photocopying. We will, however, endeavour to provide a prompt service. Please let us know if you need your copies by a particular date and we will try to meet your deadline.

The Archives may limit the number of copies made for any researcher. A general limit of 200 pages per month applies. Photocopying orders of over 1,000 pages will therefore take 5 months.

As a general rule, the following material will not be copied:

  • large bound volumes and fragile items which may be damaged by copying, eg presscopy letterbooks
  • entire items such as minute books where repeated handling may result in damage to the item
  • original items where a microfilm or other copy is available locally, eg bound copies of the Bulletin, Australian Agricultural Company despatches
  • material where copying may contravene copyright laws or agreements with depositors, eg Australian Workers Union records

In some cases where photocopying is not possible, photographic or digital copies may be able to be made. Charges are set out in Photography Services

Access Agreement

Researchers are asked to take particular note of Clause 6 of the Access Agreement. By signing this agreement you have agreed not to pass to a third party any photocopies derived from the records, including placing such copies in a library or archives.
