Access file space from off campus

Every student and staff member at the ANU is allocated file space on a secure server.  This file space, named Home Folder, is accessible from any Information Commons computer as well as from a computer outside the campus network.

To access your Home Folder from a computer outside the campus network you need to:

  • Have a computer that is connected to the Internet.
  • Have a File Transfer Program, which provides “FTP” connections to remote computers.
  • Know what host/machine/address to connect to.

Examples of such FTP programs are Fetch (www.fetchsoftworks.com) for Mac OS and FTP Explorer (www.ftpx.com) for Windows.

Once you have located and installed an FTP program on your computer, you need to configure it to connect to your Home Folder. The information that you need is your UniID, your password and the address of the host through which you connect to your files.

Read only access is also available by typing these addresses into the Internet Explorer web browser. For example - ftp://UniID:password@pebble.anu.edu.au
