Web Traffic Quota on the ANU NetworkStudents, Non-Academic Staff, Affiliates and Casual Academic Staff All ANU students can access the internet, or world wide web, through the Information Commons, which is simply the shared computer environment on campus. The Information Commons encompasses computer labs, computer workstations in Library buildings and residence halls, and access to ANU wireless. Within this computing environment, every student is allocated an initial web traffic quota of 1 GB which is topped up every night to 1GB. This web traffic quota is usually sufficient to enable you to do all the Internet research required for your assignments. In addition, many Library databases and a number of educational sites can be accessed without using any of your quota. If you do run out of web traffic quota and need to complete an academic assignment, visit AskANU in the JB Chifley Building or the WK Hancock Building and request that a consultant reset your quota. Non-Casual Academic staff For non-casual academic staff the initial allocation is 2 GB and this is topped up every night to 2 GB.This is to enable you to carry out research within the Information Commons. Generally, however, you also have access to a desk top computer in your office, and your web traffic quota with regard to this specific internet access point is significant. To find out your precise quota you will need to contact your Local IT Support Staff, as quotas may vary between schools, faculties, and colleges, and/or according to your particular research needs. |
