Software Licensing

Software licensing at the ANU usually is completed when purchasing software and can be in the form of any type of license.

Licenses can also be covered by agreements such as the Adobe CLP agreement. Some licenses require renewing usually on an annual basis.

The DOI Software Office is responsible for negotiating and renewing all of the licenses negotiated as a part of any University wide agreement, site license or bulk purchase.

Similarly we can provide assistance to individual areas with any licensing issues.

The DOI Software Office, under the directorship of the Manager, Systems and Desktop Services Program, Division of Information, is also responsible for ensuring that all software used by ANU staff or students, whether purchased by the DOI Software Office or the local area, is licensed.

Given this responsibility the DOI Software Office may request that you provide evidence of your area’s Software licensing entitlements. The DOI Software Office will do this only in the event that they need to confirm software licensing compliance.

It is the responsibility of the area that installs a particular piece/suite of software to ensure that that software is removed when the license expires if it is not renewed. The DOI Software Office may request proof of this if required for licensing compliance purposes.

In the event that an Agreement allows ‘Home-Use’ it is the responsibility of the user to ensure that the software is removed when the license expires and is not renewed or the employee/student leaves. The DOI Software Office may request proof of this for licensing compliance purposes.
