Structured (UTP) Cabling

Installation of UTP cabling and associated network equipment at ANU is handled by Networks & Communications. Areas which require new or additional cabling or changes to their network configuration, should complete this form.

Funding for this work may come from the area involved or be University funded. As a guide, alterations to existing networks such as extra outlets or moves would be funded by the area concerned. Large projects such as new buildings or major network upgrades should be funded from the building budget (F&S)

Please Note; a budget/charge code will be required before any work can commence

What is Structured (UTP) Cabling?

Structured cabling, or unshielded twisted pair (UTP) copper cabling, is an industry standard which is used throughout the University to connect desktop computer systems to the campus backbone network. In all new and refurbished buildings, telephone and fax services are also provided using UTP cabling. The advantages of UTP cabling include reliability, flexibility, and ease of installation.
