Registering an ANU IP Address

Before registering a domain name please read DNS Name Requirements

In general, IP addresses are issued to local IT support people (LITSS). The normal procedure is to send e-mail to hostmaster@anu.edu.au stating:

  • The subnet on which the address is required (eg 150.203.23).
  • The unique name(s) required.
  • Business area (ie SDS, RSES, CECS, etc.)
  • The equipment type (ie PC, Mac, Sun, etc.)
  • The operating system (ie VISTA, XP, MACOS, OSX, SUNOS, SOLARIS, LINUX etc.)
  • Any aliases (cnames) required for the machine
  • Any mail exchange information required for the machine (only for Unix hosts, name of machine which handles mail).

Alternatively, this information can be submitted by logging a Request via the DoI Helpdesk (Link will open in new window/tab) system;

  1. Click the "Register a Request" tab.
  2. Click the drop arrow in "Topic" and select "Network".
  3. Click the drop arrow in the selection box directly under "Topic" and select "IP Address Change".

Please ensure that you enter ALL details.
The required entry field entitled "Category should be set to "All other Support".
