Internet Charges

Telephone Call Charge

The Networks & Communications Program applies three separate charges to all users of network, voice and Internet services.

The Network Service Charge is for the use of the University’s Integrated Communications Network (ICN). The charge covers the cost of the operation and maintenance of the ICN. The amount charged is based on a relative measure of a business area’s use of the ICN’s assets. See Netcomms Service Charge.

Internet Charges are levied to business areas and are made up of an AARNet Subscription and a monthly charge for their respective incoming Internet traffic usage. Our Internet service provider is AARNet Pty Ltd.
See Internet Charges

The Internet Usage Charge is the charge levied to business areas for their respective incoming Internet traffic usage. Our Internet service provider is AARNet Pty Ltd, which charges separately for On Net traffic and for Commodity Internet traffic. On Net traffic is Internet traffic which is limited to the world-wide research and education networks (typically to .edu sites) and Commodity traffic is general web traffic (typically to .com sites). Charges are applied to incoming Internet traffic only. The charge for On-Net traffic is a subscription levied to each Business Unit and allows for unlimited On-Net usage. The charge for incoming Commodity traffic is a volume based charge of $15 per GigaByte in 2007. See Internet Usage Charge.

The Telephone Call Charge is the charge levied to business areas for their respective outgoing call usage usage. Our main Telephony service provider is AAPT. Call charges are allocated to each Budget Unit against call usage of the extensions within the Budget Unit collected by the ANU’s billing engine, which uses the call rates that AAPT applies to the ANU. See Telephone Call Charge.
