Netcomms Service Charge
- Reflecting ICN asset utility by each Business Area
- Two asset utility parameters have been chosen at the Access Layer
- Number of allocated switch ports
- Number of telephone extensions
- These two parameters are arbitrary, but do reflect asset utility of the ICN
by a Business Area – ie, the charge does NOT just cover the cost of switches and
telephone handsets, it applies to the entire $25M investment in the ICN
- The Charge applies to existing asset base and will cover asset life
extension
- The amount charged is not a function of traffic volume or bandwidth used
- The Charge does not pay for additions to asset base
Business Area Additions to ICN Asset Base
For new buildings and major refurbishments requiring additional network and
telephony connectivity and services:
- Capital funding for all network and telephony equipment and infrastructure
must be part of the capital budget for the project – there is no separate
capital funding from the Division of Information
- Funding line required for active network & telephony elements
- switches, phones handsets, IP telephony gateways, wireless access points,
etc
- Funding line required for passive network & telephony elements
- optical fibre cable, copper cable, structured Category 6 UTP cabling,
cabinets, cable terminations and patching, IDF’s, etc
- Networks & Communications designs the extension to the ICN, specifies
the active equipment required and arranged for the delivery, installation and
commissioning of the active equipment.
- Networks & Communications maintains a list of approved communications
cabling contractors to by used by the building contractor for the installation
of the passive networking and telephony infrastructure.
